In times when it’s hard to make sense of the world, I always come to my favorite creative outlet. In this year’s #pride shoot, I wanted to free myself from the horrific portrayal of my colorful intersectionalities by society. I’m displaying the Mexican rainbow flag and taking off my glasses. Photography has always been a joyous creative outlet. I take pride in my craft and cherish when someone trusts my creativity and eye for storytelling. It’s an incredibly fulfilling and liberating endeavor. I’ve learned a lot about my artistic process over the years. As a young aspiring professional, that can really be challenging. Imposter syndrome is very real! It’s taken time, but I have learned to value my work. I now recognize that my talent and creativity are an asset to me as a person AND a professional. I will always put my creative integrity first, and be grateful to those opportunities that don’t make me compromise any of it, because I sure won’t. It’s practicing kindness to the soul, which is the beating heart of all artistic expression.
